How We Build a Cold Room, Step by Step (With Photos and Videos)

Step 1: Enquiry and free site survey
Every project starts with a conversation. You tell us what you store, roughly how much space you have and where the site is. We then visit to measure the area, check the floor level, the power supply and access for panels and equipment, and understand how your staff will use the room each day.
This visit is free for new projects. It saves money later, because the design is based on your real site instead of guesses.
Step 2: Design, engineering and quotation
Back at the office we calculate the heat load: the product, door openings, lighting and people that add heat to the room. From this we choose the panel thickness, the condensing unit, the evaporator and the controls, then prepare layout drawings.
You receive an itemised quotation listing panels, equipment, labour, timeline and warranty, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Step 3: Preparing the refrigeration equipment
Once you approve the design, we order the panels and prepare the refrigeration equipment in our workshop. Condensing units, compressor racks and control panels are checked before they leave, which reduces surprises on site.
Step 4: Erecting the insulated panels
On site, our crew assembles the PUF panels into walls and ceiling, locks every cam joint and seals the seams so warm, humid air cannot get in. The insulated door is fitted and adjusted so it closes tightly.
This is the stage where you see the room take shape, often within a day or two for a standard chiller or freezer room.
Step 5: Mounting the condensing unit and evaporator
Next we mount the evaporator inside the room and the condensing unit outside, on the ground, a wall bracket or the roof. Copper piping is run between them, brazed and insulated, and drain lines are installed so defrost water leaves the room safely.
Step 6: Wiring and control panel commissioning
Our technicians wire the control panel with protection for the compressor, fans and defrost heaters. The system is pressure tested with nitrogen, evacuated with a vacuum pump to remove moisture and charged with the correct refrigerant.
Step 7: Pull-down test and handover
We switch on the room and watch it pull down to the set temperature, checking pressures, temperatures and defrost operation along the way. When the room holds its setpoint, we train your staff on daily use and hand over the documents.
Step 8: Maintenance and 24/7 support
Our job does not end at handover. With a preventive maintenance plan, we clean coils, check refrigerant and test electrical parts on a regular schedule. If anything goes wrong, our 24/7 line connects you directly to a technician.
